Descendants of Arthur Richardson and Hannah Mitchell Resources

I am going to try to do a few entries on this blog today. Here are some resources people have told me that are very good.

First a new book that has just been released has a lot of information on the children of Arthur and Ann that migrated to Wilkinson Parish Mississippi. I am trying to obtain this through library loan so I can have a better feel of the family That book is Our American Adventure: The History of a Pioneer East Texas Family, 1657-1966. The author of this book spent some considerable time in Wilkinson County Mississippi gather information of the various children of Arthur and Hannah that migrated here. You can get a sense of the information he has both in the PDF section dealing with the general text and great research notes.

In the research notes (that are quite extensive it appears and has many resources listed) he has listed

Some of the descendants of the people mentioned above married the Tiller boys and thus the whole book is useful in tracking those Richardson as they migrated to Texas also. I saw this 2004 entry on the net that sort of gives a sense of part of what the author was looking at.

The second resource is Memoirs of Francis Dubose Richardson. A nice overview of this document is at this web page currently. This is currently on microfilm at several Universities it appears and no doubt is available in hardback form at local libraries. It should be able to be obtained through inter Library loan . I am attempting to get a copy of this now.

Myth- 1 Isaac T Jackson Is Son of John Jackson and Elizabeth Cummins

Before I post various resources about the Isaac Jackson and Ann(e) Richardson ancestors, I think we need to clarify some myths.

Now all of what I am saying is subject to correction and if people have evidence I am wrong on this please submit a comment or email.

On this though I am developing a high degree of confidence. There seems among many people researching this line that Isaac and his brother Thomas (possibly Reuben) are sons of John Jackson and Elizabeth Cummins of Virginia (now West Virginia).

These Jacksons are indeed colorful and interesting See the Jackson Brigade, an organization that devotes itself to researching this family, wonderful web site on them. As you can see Isaac is not showing up is the line of children.

How did this belief enter into lore of descendants of Isaac and Ann(e)?

Well we see there was cause. This web page gives a nice overview of the various written contradictions. See Jackson Discrepancies. We see that this connection has been claimed by several books that no doubt were used by many people. Those include Southern Historical Families edited by John Bennet Bodie (pg 57), Mississippi Revolutionary Soldiers (pg 153), and Amite Co., Ms. Vol III 1699-1890 by Albert E. Casey.

I was starting to have my doubts about Isaac being related to this line when I noticed the farther I got away from Mississippi and Louisiana family descendants there was no mention of Isaac in this family.

A detailed study of the ancestors of the famous Civil War General Stonewall Jackson (John and Elizabeth were his grandparents) by the Virginia Military Institute also showed no connection.

I recently exchanged a email of the person that heads up the Jackson Brigade web site. He informed me that much research was done by their family and they could find no connection anywhere. He said this "myth" had been circulating for some time. Was this a early oral history of the family or did someone just see it written down and repeated it?

The interesting question I have is HOW and WHY this was believed to be true. What caused the authors of the above publications to think this was the case.

Again I am now in agreement with the John and Elizabeth Cummin's researchers that there is no connection.

Still it is curious why many thought this was so. AGAIN the purpose of this blog is share information and get the facts. If anyone has documentation that would prove such a connection it would indeed be a groundbreaking and important step in efforts to pin the genealogy of both families. If you have it or have thoughts on this leave a comment or email.

At this point however I fairly confident there is no connection and this is a dead end. I will post what I believe to be more correct Isaac genealogies later on.

How I Am A Descendant of Isaac Jackson and Ann Richardson.

A little about me and my connection to this line.

I am linked to my Great(s) Grandparents Isaac T Jackson and Ann Richardson through their daughter Susannah Jackson who married William Causey. This Causey clan was very Mississippi based

Mr Ed R Killian has done some wonderful work on the William Causey line at Descendants of William Causey, 1744-1828, of Mississippi. There is a ton research and interesting hisory on Willaim Causey and his wife Susannah Jackson. Please note he references some details of the the paretns of Susannah that is Isaac Jackson and Ann Richardson. I will take up this up some in a future entry on Jackson and Richardson truths myths.

Mr Killian 's main purpose was to document family up to William Causey and Susannah Jackson as well as give information of Causey before his marriage to Susannah. His purpose was not to do exhaustive research into Susannah's maternal and paternal line. As to that line he just was passing on information (some true and some false) that has just been passed down and in fact written in some pretty impressive tomes.

I truly recommend his good work. For a nice little overview of William and also his marriage to Susannah in Amite Mississippi. go here for a good overview.

Much of my line to Susannah Jackson and thus her parents can be seen here.

Here is my line
Isaac T Jackson married Ann Richardson. One of the children was Susannah Jackson

Susannah Jackson married William Causey. One of their children was Alexander Scott Causey

Alexander Scott Causey married Nancy Cason Cox. One of their children was LAVENIA ADELINE CAUSEY.

Lavenia Adeline Causey married Ira Jenkins. One of the their children was Dora Lillian Jenkins

Dora Lillian Jenkins married Benjamin Drake Nelson. One of their children was Hamilton Burton Nelson.

Hamilton Burton Nelson married MYRTLE ELIZABETH GRAVES. One of the children was Myrtle Ruth Nelson

Myrtle Ruth Nelson married James Walter Shepherd. One of the Children was Barbara Shepherd

Barbara Shepherd married David Hood. Their only child is the author of this blog. That is James Hood

What Is This Ann Richardson and Isaac Jackson Blog About?

What is this blog about?

I have the Genealogy Bug.

I have always loved history. My mother wished to enter the Daughters of the American Revolution. What started as an attempt to document a Revolutionary war ancestor became a crusade to find all our Revolutionary war ancestors. That has become a full fledged quest at this time to document all my Great Grandparents in our line at least until the immigrant ancestor.

I shall add in the links other blogs I will set up dealing with other branches of the family. At this time though I am focused on the very interesting rich and somewhat confusing line of the parents of Susannah Jackson Causey of Amite county Mississippi (Married to Revolutionary War Ancestor William Causey) and her parents Isaac T Jackson and Ann Richardson. This is the purpose of this blog.

I hope that this blog is useful in exchanging information and clarifying this line. Needless to say there is some great history in the lines of the Isaac Jackson and in particular Ann (Anne) Richardson . Ann Richardson come from the very distinguished Richardsons of South Carolina that traces themselves to the early days of the Colony of VA and Jamestown area.

I feel there is a need to finally pin down the line in the early days of both Isaac and Ann. There appears to a lot misinformation that has been as well as contradictions mixed with truth.

So lets search together. This blog will not serve its purpose without the interactiion of people that come across it. So please leave a comment or send email to homerlsufan@yahoo.com.

I hope this blog serves as a resource for Jackson and Richardson history and the assorted lines married into it.
